Preparing For Worship: June 7th, 2009

This week we embark on our study of the book of Joshua entitled "No Fear." It's going to be an action packed series, as Joshua narrates an overview of Israel's conquest of the Promised Land. The purpose of the book goes far beyond an exciting story however, as the name "No Fear" suggests, the book is intended to teach us how to live our lives trusting fully in God's promises. The Israelites were up against some pretty formidable foes, but they trusted God, and followed him boldly, and he proved himself faithful. We are going to learn how to live boldly in our world, and to radically follow Christ as we live without fear!

We're jumping right in to chapter 1, so read it over so you're familiar with the territory! CLICK HERE TO READ JOSHUA 1.

Here's what we'll be singing:

We'll start out with "I Have a Hope" and then remember the morning that that hope was put in place with "See What a Morning."

After Pastor Todd does the prayer/welcome/greeting thing, we'll sing about God's great strength and how he is our shelter and salvation in "Psalm 62" and then flash forward to how he used that great strength to conquer sin on the cross through his son's sacrificial death: "Stronger."

Pastor Todd will come and teach us, and then lead us in a time of communion as we learn a new song that reflects on Jesus' work for us on the cross: "Jesus Messiah." I'll teach it to everyone, but why not take a listen so you can pick it up easier??? It just makes sense.

We'll end with "Once Again" which is a great way close our communion time, and the whole service as we go out as lights in our dark world.

Any questions?? I didn't think so. That's what's happening; happy prepping!
